Tips & Tricks to help you on Mario Kart Wii.
1. You should try your best to avoid getting hit by items, like red and green turtles. To help, pick up an item and if you have bananas or turtle shells, hold the B button down and don't let go. This will hold the item behind you and keep you safe from any items hitting you from behind. Also, if someone bumps into you, they usually get hit themselves with the item your holding. You can also pick up another item while your holding the item behind you and this will help you if you lose or use the item your holding behind you.
2. Red item blocks won't stop items from hitting you, but I like to place them behind me, so that I can pick up a second item. While picking up the second item, throw the red block behind you, where you just picked up the last item. If your in the lead, someone behind you will probably confuse it with a real item box and try and pick it up. It's best to try and always place the red item blocks close to real ones, otherwise people will likely avoid it, if it's thrown just anywhere.
3. If someone uses a POW, you can avoid it by doing a jump. Also shaking your controller up and down while the POW is hitting, will lessen the spin you experience. Shake the controller around the 2nd & 3rd POW. This doesn't always work, but when it does, it will help a great deal.
4. If you prefer to use a bike, you can perform a wheelie, which will add speed to your character. It's best to only use this when your driving a straight line. To perform a wheelie, tilt your wheel back, the way you tilt back to perform a stunt. Keep it tilted up to continue the wheelie. It's best to not attempt them on areas that have alot of turns. Also if someone bumps into you, it will knock you off balance. So stay clear of other characters! That said, if you see someone preforming a wheelie, you can slow them down by bumping into them ;)
